A Relaxing Massage is all you Need to Shake the Stress Away

A Relaxing Massage is all you Need to Shake the Stress AwayPeople live a very busy life these days. As a result, they find little or no time at all for themselves. Time constraints and financial considerations often lead to a point where people forget their own needs over others.

Excuses about why one shouldn’t get a massage often revolve around some of the following factors.

An activity for the niche

An idea that has planted itself in the minds of the average Jane and Joe is that massage is not for everyone. It is an activity for the niche and elite. This is completely wrong, as massage is an activity or rather a service that is suited for everyone. Different techniques are applied by masseurs these days that serves to all body types and needs.

Time constraints

People these days are pretty busy and they think that making time for a massage session is a luxury they can’t afford! The truth is actually the opposite, they can take out some time for relaxing they are stressed out muscles as the modern day masseur won’t take much time to complete their massage session. If a person can make time for an appointment to the dentist, a piano lesson then they can make time for a massage session as well.

It’s expensive

Careful evaluation of an individual’s weekly expenses can often reveal some activities or transactions that they can do without. This will surely leave some dough left over for taking a trip to the massage studio. The best part of the deal is that once a person gets the taste of a soothing and relaxing massage session, they won’t leave much room for other unnecessary activities like taking a trip to the local pub for some drinks!

Responsibilities of the family

An individual who has taken up the responsibility of a family on his/her shoulder is already doing a noble deed and for that reason, they often find little to no time at all for themselves. This should be kept in mind that the responsibilities of the family can only be carried out if the person is at their full potential. Prioritizing self well being over other things is indeed a great lesson that can be passed on to the next generation.

Making excuses for not getting a massage is easy. This particular mindset is bound to change as soon as an individual who was reluctant and fussy at first, get down for a massage session. In almost all the cases, the most common response from a person is that why didn’t they settle for a massage session sooner.

The relaxed muscles, the toned joints and the overall feeling of happiness all adds t o the appeal for a massage.

Ups and Downs for Massages for Runners

Ups and Downs for Massages for RunnersThere are many benefits and downsides of getting massages for runners or for any athlete. Amongst the upsides are that they can feel great for most people so the relaxation that comes with that can be a great mental benefit after a strenuous run or workout. Many surveys have been conducted of runners’ post run who get a massage compared to those who do not and those who did report reduced muscle tension and a great range of motion which leads to the mental benefit. The recovery times seem to be lower with massages, but it is hard to say if it is just a placebo effect or something real. Either way, it can be a great way to increase blood flow which theoretically should allow nutrients to get to muscles more efficiently and allow the body to get rid of waste easier as well, which would make the perceived effect make sense.

While the upsides of a massage have been discussed extensively in the literature and through various reports, there are some downsides that should not be overlooked. For one, the cost can be high if you are hiring a professional. This should always be a key consideration in whether or not to make the investment- the expected return on the cost. Also, as stated before if it is just a placebo effect then it really may not be worth it, especially if you can find something else that gives you a similar impact. In fact, Dr. Justin Crame of McMaster University says that there is not really much strong evidence to support the conclusion that massages help recovery or feeling better after a run. There are many claims floating about dating back to various “experts” and even ancient times, but nothing that has really been showing through rigorous scientific study. There are many studies out there but they are not of strong scientific design or they are very small in terms of people included so they cannot be generalized or really even used to describe any effect.

By applying pressure to tissues as you do in a massage, the tissue can soften so that clenched muscles can, in turn, relax according to a kinesiology professor from Auburn. She does not buy the notion that toxins, etc. can be removed from the body because of massage, but she does see the difference in muscle relaxation.

Ultimately the jury is still out on whether or not massages can help drive recovery or if they are just an amusing nice to have. More robust studies are really the only thing that can solve the debate, but true randomized controlled trials with large enough samples sizes can be expensive to run. Also, with massages, control groups are a bit hard since it is easy to tell who is and is not getting a massage. Despite these challenges, it is still possible to create strong scientific studies for us to gain a better understanding into whether many athletes are actually helping their bodies or just buying into a fad.

Why Men Should Get Massages

Why Men Should Get MassagesIt is a great stigma that massages are more of a feminine activity or leisurely pastime. There are actually many reasons why the male massage is severely underrated by our society. It can actually help treat ailments, for one. This is usually the case because massages can help reduce muscle fatigue and increase blood flow throughout the body. It can lead to relaxation of the muscles and reduces the risks of tightening and the sequelae known with that, especially in middle-aged and older men. Massages can also help stop injuries from sports by increasing the flexibility of muscles and allowing for optimal healing as the increased blood flow can lead to better transport of nutrients and other materials to areas that need to be repaired. On the flip side, the flow can also lead to a quicker removal of byproducts made by the cell which needs to be removed from the body.

Massages also improve wellbeing in other ways. They can help reduce stress, get rid of anxiety, and improve upon stress levels. In general, people who get massages tend to feel better and happier than their counterparts who did not get massages. According to Men’s Health magazine, there are also notable physiological changes that go with men who get regular massages. For one, their blood pressure levels tend to be significantly lower than those who do not get these massages. They also have fewer downstream comorbidities including kidney failure and heart failure.

It can be hard to find the time to actually get massages during our busy lives, but once you find the time you will find that it is well worth it. People who get regular massages report higher efficiency in work and other things they do, often to the point where the time spent on the massage is easily made up for elsewhere. It is also great for morale as treating yourself and taking care of your body is important. Combine massages with meditation and you can really get a holistic rejuvenation experience in terms of mind and body.

The great thing about massages is that they are growing in popularity as people fully appreciate the upside and what is the really minimal downside. More and more massage services are cropping up across the country to really meet every need. Whether you want someone to come to your house or you want someone where you can go to a professional setting, there are many, many options available. If you are interested in finding a good masseuse in your area check out reviews online- that is usually a pretty good bet at finding a decent professional. From there it is really about your personal relationship and what works best for you so don’t be discouraged if you don’t find someone you like on the first try. Different masseuses practice different types of massages so they have different techniques and styles and people getting them will have their own preferences. Eventually, you will surely find someone who meets your needs and helps you really relax the way you should.

What are the Physiological Effects of Massages?

What are the Physiological Effects of Massages?

Massages are a popular leisurely activity that helps people relax and wind down, particularly during times of stress. People enjoy them because they are often synonymous with meditation and relaxation. While many people claim feeling better after they get a massage, there has not been too much scientific literature to back up the claims with physiological data. A new study tries to quantify the effects by looking at the impact of massages on immune, hematological, and psychological states of adults.

The study had 32 participants with each participant receiving a 25-minute, full-body massage from a trained professional. The type of massage was based on Chinese techniques known as Amma. The order and objective of the massages were followed per protocol and began with certain parts of the body and had a consistent flow between study participants. Subjects were encouraged to provide feedback on their comfort levels throughout the massage, particularly in regards to the pressure exerted.

State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), a questionnaire based anxiety measurement was taken before and after the massages were given. Blood and saliva samples were also taken to look at various markers including cholesterol levels. Each person served as their own control (the before massage numbers were the control and the after massage numbers were the comparator).

The 25-minute massages showed induction of relaxation, with better STAI scores in the after group. There was also some evidence of hemodilation and decreased cholesterol numbers in the patients. These findings are very interesting and may form the basis for future research in the area. This study alone is not enough to draw any strong conclusions, particularly in regards to the cholesterol numbers, since the number of participants in the study was so small. It will likely lead to future studies that take a m ore rigorous look at this though.

Massages can be extremely pleasurable and may have a physiological impact that is positive for you as well. It will be interesting to see where the research goes and how future data look because this has the potential to change certain disease treatments. Massage might be a much safer alternative to treating anxiety than the commonly prescribed BZDs which have a number of issues including substance abuse forming problems. The increased blood flow also has a lot of potential benefit in some people.

There are many medical groups which are likely looking for more data on these benefits because it can change their practices, the outcomes of their patients, and the public health. It will be interesting to see where clinical decision-making goes if these data are validated since it may also eventually lead to more broader coverage of massages and similar therapies by traditional payers such as insurance companies. This has the potential to make professionally delivered massages much more accessible to your average person since right now a large barrier to that is the cost associated with hiring a pro. If you are a massage fan, keep doing what you are doing because it may just be helping you be healthier.

Massage Is Good For Sports Year Round

Massage Is Good For Sports Year RoundOne of the oldest forms of remedial therapy for athletes is massage. Yes, after a rigorous workout or game, the body’s muscles need attention, and massage is the best way of handling things.

When the body is in motion, the muscles take charge. In addition, you have to coordinate on several levels of consciousness in order to control the muscles and make them operate at peak performance without causing injury. Sometimes people overdo it and put excessive stress on muscles, ligaments, and tendons. When this occurs sprains, and injuries can occur, but if massage is applied immediately after such activities, these maladies can be prevented allowing the athlete to get back into the swing of things.

Massage isn’t that difficult as there are levels from novice to professional. One can learn the rudimentary massage techniques and it’s well said that human beings have a natural sense of massage they use all the time. The art and science of massage, however, developed to make sure certain techniques actually work on specific areas of the body all the time. This systematic approach allows for precise study and application so that the working techniques can be passed on to others.
Learning massage is easy as well. There are plethora of video tutorials, books, classes, and more. Just glancing at these, one gets an idea of how massage is applied. It takes a professional, however you’ll need to get certification if you expect to do massage professionally.

There are lots of new sports arising because new devices are being created. One such is the new hoverboards that people all over are playing with. As easy as they appear, they still call for balancing and muscle control. After a fair amount of time on one, massage would come in handy to cool down the participant the same way you would use massage to cool down a football player or tennis player. Massaging the muscles so that they don’t bunch up causing cramps and so on.

Winter can take a real toll on athletes or anyone who has to battle the chilly temperatures, impact with snow and ice and so on. Since the muscles are working sometime twice as much as they would on land not covered with snow and ice, the cool down time could surely benefit from some massage, and anyone who has gone cross country skiing will agree.

So don’t sneeze at the benefits of massage. It’s a great way to prevent and handle physical problems and you can apply it to yourself as well as others too.

Massage Is Definitely Good For You

Massage Is Definitely Good For YouIt won’t take much to convince most people the benefits of massage and massage therapy. There are two fronts here, massage what people do to one another and massage therapy that is done by a professional.

People are natural masseuses, it’s part of our natural healing process from rubbing our necks and arms and legs to going to a professional parlor or office and getting the works done.

Massage isn’t something that you just up and do without a strategy, you have to have technique. You do it wrong and you can end up causing someone some injury like cramps or bruises.

Athletes will testify to the benefits of massage and their need for such therapy has led a multi billion dollar industry. There are specialists and massage gurus all over the place. There are support merchandise and classes.

Science has examined the field of massage and there are numerous debates regarding clinical data. It shows that massage does allow for rehabilitating the body and that means positive things overall. This opened the door to people going out to learn massage techniques to use at home or as a business.

You’ll find massage therapists at hospitals now and even traveling therapists who make house calls. Some therapists who cater to celebrities make incomes in the seven figure column and these positions are highly coveted.

It’s only when massage therapy gets combined with other philosophies that it gets into trouble. People are always trying to put a new spin on things and that can cause the subject to be chastised. The bottom line though is that whenever massage is practiced by competent people, it works.
It even works on animals. Many veterinarians use massage therapy on animals. It relieves stress and tension as well as have a somewhat healing affect on the body.
Getting trained in massage is relatively easy. You can attend classes that are certified and uncertified or you can watch tutorials on sites like YouTube where massage specialists will walk you through the basics so that you’ll have a good grip, no pun intended, on what massage can do.

If you’re going to get massage therapy, it’s best to read up on it. There’s lots of material on the subject and sometimes a professional is just what you need if you have the money for it. Pros use oils and lotions made of special herbs and spices. Sometimes massages are meant to coax toxins out of the skin and rehabilitate the skin’s flexibility. That is where the pros come in. They’re trained to focus on multiple approaches to massage, each one resulting in a different affect but each in harmony with the others. You get skin rehab and then muscle, joints, tendons to get the body working properly. It relieves stress and lowers blood pressure. Overall, an inside and outside workout kind of therapy that millions will swear by.

So don’t be put off by hearsay regarding massage. It’s an age old tradition that’s been tried and true since the dawn of civilization.

Shed Some Pounds by Getting a Massage

Shed Some Pounds by Getting a MassageA massage is not only something that can help you relax, but has other physiological and psychological benefits as well. It can help increase blood circulation around the body, which is a good thing for keeping your body healthy. Some studies suggest that it may even help you lose weight when combined with a healthy diet and exercise. Furthermore, keeping your body conditioned and flexible as massages can help you do, leads to reduced risk of injuries and more efficient metabolism.

Massage therapy can help reduce soreness and stiffness that is often associated with exercise as the body can more readily move around the nutrients and building blocks that it needs to to the parts that need it after exercise. The things moved around include oxygen, which is key to cellular health. By stretching tissues and reducing tension in muscles, massages can stave off injury by increasing flexibility and reducing the likelihood of sudden, big changes in muscle tone, which is what often leads to someone getting hurt. This is why professional athletes often get massage services, many times provided by their sponsors or teams who do not want to see them get hurt in action.

In addition to these effects, massages can support digestive function, which of course is also very relevant to the maintenance of one’s weight and healthy body. Belly massages and meridian bodywork can especially help in this area, particularly by normalizing peristalsis and movement of GI muscles. Furthermore, improved blood circulation to the area can lead to more efficient usage of nutrients and regulation after a meal.

The final area in which massages can have a positive impact (although there are likely more!) is in the mental effect. Massages can help relieve tension and stress from a variety of things and keep you focused and aware. It can also be a great reward after a hard day of physical or mental work as it relaxes you and really helps synergize your body’s various functions. It can even be used as motivation to get through that work out or to stick to that diet plan. Just remember it is a great supplement if you are committed to the other pieces as well. Massages alone won’t be a cure all, but used in combination with other methods of healthy living, they can really boost your outcomes and help you feel and live much better!

Health Benefits of Regular Massages

Health Benefits of Regular MassagesMassages are generally viewed as a very positive thing by most people for their recreational and relaxing attributes. While massages can certainly help you wind down and feel better, they actually have benefits that may go much deeper. They are shown to help relieve a number of different types of main from joint pain to aching muscles. They can also help the body actually generate a number of natural chemicals that help alleviate pain and may relax and calm people. These effects can be especially important in people who suffer from chronic pain or related disorders including arthritis, migraines, fibromyalgia, etc. They may also help people who are dealing with the everyday stressors of life.

Believe it or not, massages also help counter some of the effects of sedentary lifestyles. Many people these days have jobs and lifestyles that generally do not require them to move around or be as physical as people once were. This has led to very serious public health issues in the Western world as obesity rates have gone up and more people are suffering from chronic metabolic and cardiovascular diseases like heart failure and diabetes. Massages actually can simulate certain muscle and body movements that may improve circulation and keep things the way they should be. Of course they are not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle which includes daily exercise, but they can help be an additional benefit. Massages along with exercise is really the optimal way to do it in terms of improving an individual’s health outcomes.

Massages can also help heal those who are suffering from injury or illness. The improved circulation often translates to better transport of vital materials sent by your body to help heal what is being fixed. Massages also keep these areas more flexible, thereby potentially cutting down physical therapy requirements. Physical therapy can often be a long and grueling process which sometimes leads to other issues like mental disorders, so limiting the need for it by preserving body function can be a very positive thing, especially when done in such a simple way.

And then there is the obvious benefit of getting a massage- feeling relaxed. Today’s lives are often very stressful for many adults and massages can be a good way on unwinding and maintaining good mental health. From work to relationships to being a parent, there are many challenges that millions of people face today. Unfortunately, this has often led to use and even overuse of certain medications as we see higher rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental disorders. These disorders can be very debilitating in terms of the effect on one’s life and the medications sometimes are addictive (especially with anxiolytics) and often come with side effects. Massages can be a good potential alternative treatment and likely something that is an even better preventative agent.

So you always knew you enjoyed that spa day and just relaxing as someone helped you unwind. Now you have all the more reason to go get a massage. So what are you waiting for?

Massage Therapy: Purpose and Recovery

Massage Therapy: Purpose and RecoveryClinics globally are recognizing more and more the significance behind massage therapy for sports, work, and other-related injuries. In example, an Ontario Canada Clinic (Georgetown Physical & Supports Therapy)  recently did research and furthered the meaning behind massage-therapy, it’s benefits, how physiotherapy promotes rehabilitation, and how ultra-sound techniques for massage and recovery can be applied. This is a globally recognized technique, and massage-therapists around the globe can all agree that the positive’s outweight the negatives on a regular basis of receiving such treatment.

Massage-therapy is predominantly known to be used for recovery of injury, but is commonly used as maintenance like treatment as well. The significance of maintaining your body and it’s muscle, tendon, and bone alignment is significant and can be compared to that of the maintenance of your car.  Surely you value your body more than your car? Like regular car maintenance, this can equally be appreciated through severe-recovery/damage, and treatment for your body, especially the neck, arms, back, and legs. These areas are key to everyday performance for most athletes, professionals, and everyday people alike within reason. Pulls, strains, and sprains are all too common now a days, and can be incurred with the simple unfortunate motion of getting out of the shower the wrong way, all the way to professional sports injury.

Muscle-tissue or soft-tissue being in good-shape is primal to performance, and an overall sense of well being. The manipulation of the muscles and soft-tissue through massage therapy help to stimulate relaxation and recovery. Like rest and recovery, massage-therapy helps to rejuvenate the body and mind.

There are many great benefits to occasionally (or regularly) as-needed receiving massage-therapy. This method of treatment is focused on assisting in the recovery and positive change of muscle-spasms, circulation, injuries, blood-circulation, developing a more ‘solid’ posture, and even reducing forms of anxiety.

Interested individuals, professionals, and athletes alike should only seek massage-therapy from licensed, experienced, professionals to ensure safety, efficiency in treatment, and the best results. Serious injuries can be exacerbated if given the wrong treatment, or improper care. Interested individuals should always seek medical and professional advice or recommendation first before receiving massage-therapy, as it’s not beneficial for just anyone. Some serious injuries have been successfully rehabbed with massage-therapy, while others will yield no results. Additionally, ice compressions, electrode treatment, stretching, and anti-inflammatories may also serve beneficial for people whom are considering accompanying their massage-therapy, or seeking alternatives for treatment and success.
