What is Ice Massage and What Is It Used For?

Whenever you have any sort of pain in your body, you want to fix it immediately. You might be tempted to reach for over-the-counter pain relievers but this only provides a temporary solution. Instead, it would be a much better idea to pursue a permanent solution that truly fixes the cause of your pain. For some, that solution comes in the form of ice massage.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “What, I just grab an ice cube and rub my shoulders with it?” Yes, you could do that but it wouldn’t be that effective and not really that easy to accomplish. Instead, you should use an ice cup. We’ll talk about how to make one in just a moment.

Ice can dramatically reduce inflammation and pain in the muscles and joints. It’s especially helpful immediately following an injury and can cut back on swelling rather quickly.

Living with chronic pain is very difficult. It can greatly reduce your mobility and can make it difficult to accomplish the things you need to accomplish on a daily basis. Plus, it has been shown time and time again that pain changes people. It can make you permanently surly and in a bad mood. To prevent this from happening to you, take advantage of the resources that are available to you.

First of all, see your doctor. There may be a serious underlying cause for your pain. It’s vital that you rule this out before you try any home remedies. Once you receive your doctor’s go ahead, you can try getting an ice massage or give one to yourself. It’s fairly simple to do.

All you need to do is make an ice cup. To do this, you need a small paper cup and fill it about two thirds of the way full. Freeze it. Then, peel back the rim of the cup until about a half of an inch of ice is showing. This way, you have a nifty handle to hold onto!

Prepare by getting some towels in place around the area you’re going to treat. Ice melts, after all! Then begin to rub the ice over the painful area. If it’s too intense, place a piece of plastic between your skin and ice. As you run out of exposed ice, peel back to the cup to reveal more.

It’s okay to give yourself an ice massage several times a day so long as it feels helpful to you.
